What stays on your device

Everything you create in Truth is stored on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Watch:

• Reading progress and history, bookmarks, highlights, notes
• Prayer journal, verse collections, reading-plan progress
• Memorization progress, copywork and quiz scores
• Handwritten margin notes made with Apple Pencil
• Themes, fonts and every preference

If you never turn on sync, deleting the app deletes all of it: there is no cloud copy. That is why it is worth exporting a backup from You → Export & Backup before changing devices, or turning on Keep or iCloud.

Syncing with Keep (only if you turn it on)

Keep is Truth’s own sync. It carries your library between your devices through our server. When you turn it on:

• A copy of your library is stored on our server, hosted by Cloudflare: the kinds of things you choose under What Keep carries, such as reading progress, notes, highlights, bookmarks, journals, plans, Study Desk cards and documents.
• Photos you place on your pages in the PDF Builder travel with that copy only if you turn on Pictures on your pages (it is off unless you switch it on). They are held under the same anonymous key, used only to show your pages on your other devices, and erased with the rest of your Keep.
• It is held under an anonymous Keep identifier and a secret key made on your device. No name, email address or Apple Account is needed or collected. The key is kept in your device’s Keychain, and on Apple devices in iCloud Keychain so your other devices can join.
• It travels over encrypted connections and is used only to sync your library: never for advertising, analytics or training, and never shared or sold.

You can switch Keep off on a device at any time. Settings → Sync & Offline → Erase this Keep deletes the library from our server straight away, for every device; everything on your devices stays.

Syncing with iCloud (only if you turn it on)

If you choose iCloud instead, your library is stored in your own private iCloud database through Apple’s CloudKit. We cannot see it. You can remove it in your device’s Settings under your name → iCloud → Manage Storage.

What the app accesses on your device

Truth uses a few standard system APIs, all of which Apple requires to be disclosed. None of it leaves your device:

• UserDefaults: your reading preferences, such as theme, typeface and reader mode.
• File timestamps: when you last read a chapter, so Continue Reading works.
• Disk space: a check that the bundled Bible database installed correctly.

Content included in the app

The following is bundled and read entirely offline. No network call is made to open any of it:

• Scripture: the King James Version, the Apocrypha, and the original-language source texts (the Westminster Leningrad Codex in Hebrew; the Received Text, Byzantine and Septuagint in Greek). All public domain.
• Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary: public domain, from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library.
• Spurgeon’s Morning & Evening: public domain.
• Easton’s Bible Dictionary and Nave’s Topical Bible: public domain.
• Cross-references: from OpenBible.info and the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (CC-BY licensed).

Search

• Word, phrase and reference searches run entirely on your device against the built-in Bible. Nothing is sent over the network.
• Searches written as a question or a topic, such as “verses about anxiety”, and questions typed on the Study Desk, are sent to our server and on to Anthropic, which returns the references of the most relevant passages or a short background note. The passage text you then read comes from the offline Bible already on your device.

Only your search text is sent, and only in order to return results. It is not stored, not linked to you, not used for advertising, and never used for training. Offline, search falls back to the on-device word search.

Audio narration

Recorded readings are provided by Bible Brain, a service of Faith Comes By Hearing. Audio is streamed on demand and never downloaded or redistributed, so pressing play sends a request for the chapter you are listening to. No personal information is attached to that request. Full attribution for every recording is shown in the app under Content & Licensing.

Reading other translations

The bundled King James text is fully offline. If you choose a translation that is not bundled, another English edition or one of the German editions, the app downloads that text from a public, openly licensed source (eBible.org, bolls.life or bible-api.com), which means requesting the edition or the passage reference, for example “John 3”. The Verse of the Day widget may fetch verse text the same way. No personal data is sent.

Contacting support (only if you choose to)

If you start a support conversation in the app, we receive and store, on our server, what is needed to reply:

• Your message text and subject
• Your email address, only if you choose to enter it
• An anonymous device identifier, so the conversation stays threaded
• If you allow notifications, a push token from Apple, so we can tell you when we reply
• Basic technical context: device model, OS version and app version

This is used only to provide support, never for marketing, and it is never shared. You can ask for your support conversation to be deleted at any time, at the address below.

Donations and tips

Optional tips are handled entirely by Apple’s in-app purchase system. Truth never sees your payment information. See Apple’s privacy policy.

Third parties

• Anthropic: processes question searches (privacy policy).
• Cloudflare: hosts the search, support and Keep sync service.
• Faith Comes By Hearing / Bible Brain: streams the recorded audio (terms).
• eBible.org, bolls.life and bible-api.com: public sources for translations that are not bundled.
• Apple: handles in-app purchases, notifications, and iCloud sync if you choose it.

There are no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind in the app.

Children

Truth is a general-audience Bible app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and by design collects none from ordinary use: sync and support are entirely opt-in, and neither asks for a name or email address.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Tracking or new data collection will never be added without saying so plainly, both here and in the app.
